My Top Ten Favourite TV Shows of All Time

As I find more great shows to watch, there is a potential for this list to change over time.

10 - Top Gear (UK) - This is funny to watch and I like cars!  What more can I say?

9 - The Big Bang Theory - One of the very few current sitcoms that doesn't seem to be running out of ideas and getting.  I find this show very enjoyable.  Although some people didn't like the addition of Amy and Bernadette, I would have to disagree.  I find Amy to be one of the funniest characters on the show.

8 - Blue Mountain State - Probably quite surprising as I assume it wasn't that popular as it got stopped after three seasons.  However, I found this show very enjoyable all the way through.

7 - The Office (US) - It had it's ups and downs in the areas of getting a bit dry, but it is one of my favourite sitcoms.  Steve Carrell is one of my favourite actors and although once he left it did start declining in humour, what they did do right was make us grow to love the characters.  I found myself wanting Jim and Pam to be happy with each other and I even began to route for Dwight.  And despite the fact that it wasn't as funny as it once was, I was determined to watch it just because I wanted to see how each individual characters stories played out.  What it lacked for in humour after Steve Carrell left it, certainly made up for in relationships between audience an character.  Fortunately, the last few episodes of the final season were brilliant.

6 - The Apprentice (UK) - I look forward to this show every week! I enjoy comparing what I would do to some of the decisions made by the candidates. As a whole, this year's candidates are pretty useless, but they do make for great TV.

5 - The Walking Dead - Although season two in my eyes moved just about as slowly as the zombies did, season three was, in my opinion fantastic.  They introduced a human threat in the shape of the governor.  I felt that David Morrissey was brilliant as the Governor.  Some people have said to me that they think it isn't that good because it's nothing like the graphic novels.  True, they aren't anything like the novels really.  But to say it isn't very good because it isn't like them is very wrong.  1.  Something can be good without being too much like what it originated from (Lord of the Rings for example) and 2.  What they have missed or added from the novels have been done well.  Novels = no Daryl Dixon who is by far everyone's favourite character.  And I definitely think the Governor is better in the TV series.  Oh yeah, and Andre Lincoln is fantastic.

4 - Friends - I don't feel like I need to say anything here.  Arguably the best sitcom ever but personally not my favourite.  However, it is still amazing.  I just preferred...

3 - Scrubs - Scrubs over Friends? Yes.  In my opinion anyway.  I understand why many people would prefer Friends but just by a small fraction, I prefer Scrubs.  It also has one of my favourite sitcom characters of all time in Dr. Cox.  If you ever find yourself watching this the whole way through again, this time pay real attention to the soundtrack.  It is fantastic and helps to make the whole show.

2 - Game of Thrones - I am a massive Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones fan!  I do think this is definitely one of the best shows on TV at the moment.  The acting is great the whole way it's been made is very good.  As I am only on the second book, from what I have been told, it has stuck fairly well to the books.  So I think they have done well translating the book onto the TV screen.

1 - Dexter - I love this show.  Michael C. Hall is one of my favourite actors.  The characters are all great and well played, the storyline is fantastic and the 'nemesis' that he gains each season are done so well.  Season 8 has just started and it is looking like a great one!

My Top Ten Favourite Films

10 - Spider-Man 2 - Really? Yes really!  I don't know why, and I know it's not really THAT good, but it just does it for me.  I have probably watched this film more times than any other film ever.  I'm pretty sure I know it off by heart.  Oh yeah, and I'm also secretly a huge Spider-Man fan...

9 - Shutter Island - A really good film.  Quite dark, which I like.  Now a lot of people say they saw the twist coming, but I didn't which is probably why I enjoyed it.

8 - Kill Bill: Vol. 1 - Good, action packed and lots of fight scenes!

7 - Hot Fuzz - This film is probably my second most watched film of all time as it is ALWAYS on TV.  However, I'm totally cool with always watching it!

6 - The Lord of the Rings (trilogy) - Love it.  Could happily do Lord of the Rings marathons whenever the mood takes me.  Just need to have the time, especially when trying to watch the uncut versions!

5 - Despicable Me - I have a big soft spot for these kinds of animated film.  The minions obviously make it and I just love Steve Carrell.

4 - The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger is fantastic in this!  It is just a great film that is easily watchable again and again.

3 - The Silence of the Lambs - Anthony Hopkins is a fantastic actor.  I honestly don't know what I like about this film, I just know that I do like it a lot!.

2 - Up - A lovely film!  And who can say that the scene near the beginning didn't bring a tear to your eye?  What scene you say? You know what scene!

1 - Saving Private Ryan - A classic.  Fantastic film.  The camera work of the beach landings is amazing.  If you haven't seen this film (although you probably have because everyone has watched it), then go watch it now!

My Top Ten Favourite Novels

10 - Brave New World, Aldous Huxley - Unfortunately, I read this along time ago and cannot remember it all that well.  However, I remember that I loved it.  Number 10 because I cannot justify placing a novel that I can't remember all that well any higher.

9 - The Bourne Identity, Robert Ludlum - Having watched the film first, I was pleasantly surprised. It was very different to the film and in my opinion, much better. I own the other two books in the original trilogy and need to get round to reading them!

8 - Animal Farm, George Orwell - I find this man a genius. The novel is a thinker. I thoroughly enjoy books that make me think.

7 - The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald - I studied this novel for English literature A level. Although completely different to the fantasy/distopian genres that I usually go for, I loved it because it was so descriptive. I definitely felt I was in the novel seeing exactly what Nick Carraway was seeing the whole time.

6 - The Road, Cormac McCarthy - Very uniquely written. I love the post apocalyptic genre that kind of ties in with a distopian world setting.

5 - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Philip K. Dick - One that definitely got me thinking.  I thoroughly enjoy books that make me think.  Loved it.  I more than highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys the distopian genre.

4 - The Fellowship of the Ring, J. R. R. Tolkien - What can I say?  Is there anything to say?  Tolkien manages to keep the reader drawn to the book without all the fight scenes the film had.  I don't really feel worthy doing any kind of critique of Tolkien's work.

3 - The Hobbit, J. R. R. Tolkien - Just a beautiful novel.  My Dad read this book to me when I was a child.  His copy has beautifully drawn pictures in it that seemed to make the book whole.

2 - A Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin - I haven't actually quite finished the book yet (I'm more than 3 quarters of the way through) but it is a favourite.  Despite having not finished it, I have put it on the list as it would take something quite drastic for me to remove it!  I am so excited to move on to the others.

1 - 1984, George Orwell - I also studied this novel for English Literature.  I fell in love with this book as soon as I opened it.  Amazingly written, imaginative and it really made me think about life in general.  A lot of 'what ifs' were floating around after reading this.  It was meant to be Orwell's predictions of the future and it got me to thinking.  Is he actually that wrong?

This list will likely change in the fairly near future as I have a long list of novels that I would love to read.

I would love to see anyone elses top ten novels!
